About this deal

I had the Olympus DPS 1 and sold it very quickly, I really didnt think much of it, it is ok for the money but thats about it. However, these coatings cost money and so to keep the manufacturing costs down on cheap binoculars, they will not only reduce the amount of glass surfaces that they coat, but also the amount of layers of these coatings on the surface that they do coat. But what you will find on many low cost binoculars is that they only have “Multi-Coated” optics meaning that only SOME of their glass surfaces have received Multiple layers of anti-reflection coatings.

Most good quality binoculars these days are fully sealed, but unless you plan to go out in the rain, does this really make a difference? Adromeda M31 was a fairly well defined fuzzy, although the conditions were a bit hazy with bright spotlights on the nearby bridge spoiling the dark skies, and I quickly panned across to the Triangulum galaxy which showed up very dimly: a surprise for me as I couldn't locate it with my 12x60 celestrons. The binoculars are encased in a rubber-coated armour to prevent damage in the event of knocks or bumps. I suspect at lot of folk, given hands-on experience, might go for lighter and more compact 7x35 model. Cheapish bins do not give clear views, and suffer from colour fringing, which is not desirable when trying to I d a bird.

They had a Monarch 7 there as well and comparing them, I felt there was not much in it, I came away thinking the Aculon is good value. More recently I have used otherwise identical binoculars of the same brand, and the BaK4 models still always present brighter images than the Bk7 models. I expect they are likely to be more expensive than the Olympus DPSI though likely less than the waterproof Nikon Action EX model. I bought these for myself to upgrade the brightness of my Lietz 8x20 binos (old eyes) and since then handed them to my young niece as a good starter for birdwatching and stargazing.

The Bushnell Natureview 6x30 looks like one such model (though we are moving further from the original 8x40 spec |=)| ). The Pleiades looks tiny through them, it gives a different perspective of the sky entirely compared to 8x, pretty cool. They were pretty popular last year - there was a huge thread about them, nobody's talked about them much recently but they're still available. i would describe them as a medium size binocular, not too small and not too big which in my view is the perfect size !Binoculars these days have from about 10, right up to about 20 separate glass surfaces within them and each of these can potentially cause unwanted reflections or disrupt the light in a way that is not desired.

Super lightweight and easy to focus with the wide FOV makes learning the constellations a fun and interesting process.I've had a chance to measure the true FOV on the set-square-in-the-sky: the bottom of Ursa Major between Phecda and Merak which confirmed the 8° FOV. Covered with a rubber coating, this superior quality black finish binocular is easy to handle and use. I was looking at that size on their info sheet and noticed that it had over 9° FOV , but maybe the reduction in aperture would reduce the brightness? The product also comes with mono-layer coating inside the barrel, which decreases the sunlight and balances contrast of your pictures.

I was having a look at your binocular list and I noticed some serious wide angle models which are very interesting. However as I have not looked through the Olympus or compared them I can’t be completely, but it is something that I have often witnessed with similar types of comparisons. While I have noticed it for quite some time, it tends to be difficult to quantify when you are comparing different binoculars from different brands.

We used this binos in Kalpa to watch snow peaked mountain as well as used in Bharatpur bird sanctuary the quality is amazing. A wide field of view makes locating a bird quicker and easier, particularly when viewing over a wide area or tracking them as they fly.
