Our premium 80-proof, extra-aged bourbon ages years longer in white oak barrels than original Jim Beam®.v=1673022002","width":1536},{"alt":null,"id":32540462350649,"position":2,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1. Jim Beam Black the triple aged statement refers not to three different types of cask as that would not be allowed under bourbon regulations but to the 6 year old age statement which is three times the minimum maturation period for straight bourbon. Actually, the combination of the oak barrels used today and many other factors lead to way thinner 43% ABV bourbons than the ones from 30 years ago. Even with the “extra age”, there’s still a little youthful graininess that hasn’t been aged-away yet, but nothing is so earthy or bitter. v=1660748950","width":640}],"requires_selling_plan":false,"selling_plan_groups":[],"content":"The world-famous Chivas Regal Scotch blend has been a luxurious choice since the 1900's.
I like a majority of what Jim Beam Black has to offer, but it also has so much missed potential that keeps it away from “Mid Shelf+”. Knowing that they already make fantastic bourbons, they were reassured of this fact when they were awarded with the accolade of highest rated whisky out of the whole of North America in 2008 by the testing Institute of Chicago. Offshore Island deliveries will take longer than two days including Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands and Islands and Scilly Isles. Jim Beam is a bourbon of extraordinary finesse, not light, not heavy, more of a "baritone" among spirits.
From memory, the Jim Beam Black has more dark sweetness, licorice, and apple fruitiness than Jim Beam White, which is thinner and more grainy. I have far too much fun writing about whiskey and singlehandedly running The Whiskey Shelf to bring you independent, honest, and useful reviews, comparisons, and more.
This Bourbon has been aged for six years and is one of the most recognisable whisky brands in the world. But given that Jim Beam Whiteis a straight bourbon without an age statement anywhere on the bottle, that’s 4 years old. I think some time up to around 2015 (I’m probably off by a year or two), Jim Beam Black used to have a 6 or 8 year old age-statement. Jim Beam Black actually tastes good and is well-balanced, touching on sweet, herbal, fruity, oaky, spicy, and earth flavors. After “chewing”, I taste caramel, vanilla, roasted oak, licorice, apple peel and a little cherry, cinnamon, caraway seed, nutmeg, and peach at the end. This release has been aged for an extra six years in charred American oak barrels, which has helped it to develop an even more rewarding, full-bodied flavour.
