About this deal

If we were talking about more hardcore CHIFI connoisseurs who purchase midfi to TOTL gear, then yes, they have different priorities and perhaps an amp will unlock the sound for audio nirvana and future proof this hobby, but I honestly won’t recommend beginners to invest so much into sources when they are getting a budget CHIFI set. Downsides to the Bass RegionThe issue that I would find with the bass region is its lack of that strident and beefy or jarring type of boom down low for them Bass Bois. However, I find the P05 to be less fuzzy at note ends, better defined notes and better separation in the bass region. As this is an intended V shaped tuning, mid and vocal lovers best look elsewhere, as vocals and the mids are in the background, and at times may be a bit hollow. Right beside the nozzle is a vent, and another is located at the top of the IEM as well as each shell of the Storm has branding on its faceplate.

Her voice begins the track mellow and sweet but slowly crescendos into a powerful ballad style when the chorus hits and the KB01 plays it very well. The treble is mildly bright, but leans further toward natural-sounding for an extremely comfortable listening experience, rather than an extremely analytical one. The tonality of the KBEAR KS1 is quite similar to the BLON BL-01, perhaps the KBEAR KS1 is a tinge more V shaped (slightly more midbass and slightly more treble).A “5” is exactly average and please take into consideration the “lot” of iems these ratings are gathered against. Mid bass is more focused on the bass region as it gives an excess amount of body on some instruments and male vocals (bloat). You can see the swirling pattern on the faceplate with the white KBear logo proudly sitting in the middle. There’re also many KZ sets like the KZ D-Fi ( D-Fi Review HERE), the CCA Duo ( Duo Review HERE), the KZ X-HBB PR2 ( PR2 Review HERE) among a few others.

I've looked at these for a tiny bit, but there's only one review that shows and it doesn't talk about the mic quality at all. The casing and button appear to be cheaply made and I worry this could be a weak link in an otherwise pretty strong chain. However, just as easily I can say that the KB01 doesn’t do a bad job highlighting the minutiae within a track and does better than many sets. As discussed, mid and vocal lovers best consider alternative IEMs as this is a deliberately tuned V shaped set. The KB01 is not a detail-oriented type iem but in the same breath it certainly doesn’t lack in this area.

Overall I would list the KS1 as does not require an amp, but will benefit from at least a step up from phone /tablet to dongle. However, the upper midrange rise gives instruments like electric guitars a distinct presence in the playback which I find quite enjoyable. Coherency of its drivers are actually impressive given that they are single DDs which surely excel on this part on how they deliver a faster phasing response. Still, the KB01 most certainly does scale to both power (to a degree) and to the auditory ability of the source being used. Suprisingly, the first I've noticed from this pair in term of its technicality is its detail retrieval. It is a set well suited to sitting back and chilling and enjoying the music for what it is, not the gear. Sensitive” by Meghan Trainor on the other hand shows how that pinna gain in the upper midrange might cause a bit of glare as well.

In general, the KBEAR Storm is a V shaped IEM with a slightly warm characteristic to it and slightly more emphasis on the mids and treble region. The KBear logo is on the front of the shell with KBear KS1 and L/R marked in matching gray across the rear surface. Still, at the beginning and at the end of the day, the reason we purchase earphones will always revolve mostly around the sound. That been said, if you're into music that has more emphasis on traditional instruments (like folk derivatives), then V90 is probably a more suitable choice after all. Lower mids have a little extra warmth and weight thanks to the bass bleed, but other than making lower vocals sound a little thicker, it does little to obstruct the lower mids.
