About this deal

The book is almost a textbook of how a dedicated actor can succeed in his career if he never gives up, works hard, and makes some difficult choices. On 26 February 2001, Jason became a father at the age of 61 when his girlfriend, 41-year-old Gill Hinchcliffe, gave birth to a girl in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury.

All pictures unless otherwise stated have been taken by me, Rebecca Smith – the sole author of this blog. Many people think they know David from the countless books that have been written on him but I have been waiting for this book for a very long time.

Random House presents the complete, unabridged audiobook of My Lives: From Del Boy to Granville, Pop Larkin to Frost by David Jason.

As I started to read his autobiography, I realised he had a background in acting covering such a variety of characters in his repertoire that little was beyond him and his ability to perform whatever role was presented. Growing up on the family farm in Ballyfin, Ireland, Noel's childhood was spent tending to the cattle and sheep, the hay and silage, the tractors and land, his beloved sheepdog, Pirate, pro.It wasn’t until 1981, kitted out with a sheepskin jacket, a flat cap, and a clapped-out Reliant Regal, that David found the part that would capture the nation’s hearts: the beloved Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in Only Fools and Horses. David Jason has managed to illustrate that missing out the autobiographical genre from my reading means I’m missing out on memory, entertainment and enjoyment. I would love to see Mr Jason's life story depicted on film and I think it has the potential to one day do so!

His story clearly shows his ability to turn his hand to any type of character acting as well as comedic work, though I think he is perhaps most loved for "Only Fools and Horses" with Inspector Frost running second. The period of time when David worked with Ronnie Barker is my favourite part of the book – Ronnie Barker is another of my great heroes and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the friendship the two men shared – you can tell just how much David loved Ronnie from the way he talks about him, page after page. The book itself was an enjoyable read covering David's career from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of fame. In 1989, Jason starred as Ted Simcock in the ITV drama series A Bit of a Do, aired from January to December.
