About this deal

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. DJ Shadow, aka Josh Davis, could be credited with bringing newfound introspection to the gloating sounds of hip-hop. Both the LP and the 7” have been remastered, for the fir st time, from the original studio tapes, revealing clarity unheard until now. Shadow's classic first album has been consistently voted one of the best records of the '90s, in magazines such as Spin, Q, Urb (whose readers voted it the best album ever made), Melody Maker, etc.

The samples Shadow used are often poor quality recorded sources anyway from scratchy old 7" singles, which were then put straight to DAT after coming out of the Akai MPC60 sampler, so you can forget about the 'analogue chain' argument here - this is as good as it is gonna get. While some of his tracks float serenely on a cloud of jazzy phrasing and ambient textures, Shadow always lands on his beat. The DJ built songs out of layer upon layer of sampled instruments and other sound fragments, most of which he processed, looped and re-arranged far beyond recognition. An instrumental album entirely composed of samples and influenced by both prog rock and Public Enemy was, at the time, revolutionary. What resonated about Endtroducing when it was released in 1996, and what makes it still resonate today, is the way in which it loosens itself from the mooring of the known and sails off into an uncharted territory that seems to exist both in and out of time. Products labelled '*item fulfilled by Exertis on behalf of hmv' will be supplied to you directly by Exertis via their approved couriers.

By the time Beastie Boys convened to record the follow-up to their debut, Licensed To Ill, they'd painted themselves into a corner. With a message as fragmentary as an overheard conversation, Endtroducing conveys no apparent conclusion, but begs the mind, body, and soul for some rewind. I'm not really the biggest fan of sampling, seeing how I enjoy the fresh, vibrant sounds in a studio being produced for the very first time, regardless of genre or any clear or unclear or signs of plagiarism, intentional or not.The 2016 edition also comes with expanded notes from a new interview conducted by Eliot Wilder (he wrote the 33 1/3 book on the album) and some never-before-published photographs by B+ and Phil Knott. It can clearly be checked on the matrixes AND on the labels, so it seems weird their are still some mix-ups. There are some interesting phasing effects that are well realized on speakers but I'd say that this album is probably just as at home on good headphones as speakers. The only thing I can add to the other reviewers comments is this: Wondering whether it's worth getting rid of the single disc edition you have and replacing it with this?

s Aquemini is the ambitious third studio release from the hip hop duo OutKast and follow-up to 1996's ATLiens. Innovative arrangements and structures of sound are present here, reflecting a mind that is constantly summoning collage forms. A 1991 landscape-changing release from the pioneering hip-hop group, The Low End Theory embraced a minimalist approach and set the tables for the alternate rap movement that followed. But I’m proud of these releases, and I’m hoping that perhaps they’ll bring some much - needed enjoyment to a small percentage of those who remember 1996 and an era of optimism that ‘Endtroducing’ helped soundtrack. the original CD issue came in a rather lovely card package and the vinyl package was a thing of rare beauty (yes, I had both.will always hold a special place in my heart because it represents the year that I released my first album. There’s been so much disruption to our daily li ves, not to mention means of income, that it feels almost inappropriate to promote myself and my music. Groundbreaking debut studio album by DJ Shadow originally released in 1996 on Mo Wax, simply put a sampling masterpiece. Great liner notes and several tunes on the second disc that wouldn't look out of place on the album. Davis is not only a master sampler and turntablist supreme, he is also a serious archeologist with a world-thirsty passion for seeking out, uncovering and then ripping apart the discarded graces of some other generation, that pile of broken dreams, and sewing them back together into a tapestry of chronic bleakness and beauty.
