About this deal

I used Dutch-process because I like the deep chocolaty taste. I’ve also used the regular stuff and loved them that way. It was also in need of quite a bit more sweetener. I decided that the result would turn out to be a totally different recipe, so I gave up on making that work. Rice Krispies: For that perfect crunchy bite! You can also make these with other cereal, like cornflakes, if you prefer.

Make smaller or larger balls if you prefer. Each of these balls is made with around 4 tablespoons of the mixture. step1Line a cookie sheet with parchment or waxed paper. In 1-quart saucepan, mix chocolate chips and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth. Cool the chocolate while preparing the candies. Change the shape/size: i.e., make healthy chocolate cereal squares (flattened) or smaller balls. Adjust the baking time (i.e., small balls only need 7-8 minutes).

In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with 2 teaspoons oil for 60 seconds in the microwave and then stir continuously until completely melted and smooth. Microwave an additional 30 seconds, if necessary. I like this combination of cocoa, rice cereal, and the mini chocolate chips. A nice twist on the usual. Like the suggestion to dust with cocoa powder too. Enjoy the chocolate cereal bites for breakfast with your favorite dairy-free milk (and optional fruit) of your choice!

I prefer the smooth texture without the chips, and you can’t even taste the chocolate chips because they blend totally in with the chocolate flavor of the balls. I always add chocolate chips to my brownies and thought it made sense here but… nah. Just save the calories for something else!

How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls

Adjust the texture: For example, if you bake them for slightly less, the homemade cereal balls will be softer.

Lemon Protein Balls – these aren’t anything at all like the other recipes but I threw it in here because they’re so tasty. ;) This is one of those recipes you can put together in a few minutes when you couldn’t be bothered to bake something and/or it’s too hot to turn on the oven. Cocoa powder: Use unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder (the latter is less processed and loaded with antioxidants and several vitamins/minerals, but more bitter). From healthy energy bites and hearty granola to dreamy and decadent icebox pies, my Favorite No-Bake Recipes leave nothing out but the oven. Skip the heat and enjoy these delicious no-bake eats! The homemade cocoa puffs cereal will still be soft immediately out of the oven but firm up as they cool. Be careful not to overbake them, as they can and will burn. You might also like to add a tiny pinch of salt to balance the sweetness and enhance the cocoa flavor in the Choco cereal and/or a small amount (1/2 tsp) of vanilla extract for extra flavor depth.
