About this deal

Where Miss Angelica goes, I go,” he said, in a voice so deep Grace could almost hear it through her boots. Nettle & Bone brings Kingfisher's signature honesty and authenticity to a fairy tale setting: the result is refreshing, earnest but not naive, and deeply satisfying. I devoured it. This is one that's going to stay with me for a long time' Sarah Gailey, author of Magic for Liars Hive Mind: The Warrenmind in Paladin's Strength, a Hive Mind of rabbits. It's a benevolent example capable of peaceable communication and trade, which doesn't make it any less unsettling. Sole Survivors: Only seven of the Saint of Steel's paladins survived His death: Stephen, Istvhan, Galen, Shane, Marcus, Judith, and Wren. It's never mentioned outright how many paladins the Saint had in the first place, but twelve of them were spared to meet with the locals near the town of Hallowbind, so it's implied that there were quite a few.

Stephen is a paladin whose god has died and left a blank space in his soul. Stephen is hella, hella depressed. Every day he thinks about not getting up, and every day he does it anyway. He does his best to be a good person, even though he’s not sure what that means or if he deserves to be one. Creepy, funny, heartfelt, and full of fantastic characters I absolutely loved' Melissa Caruso, author of The Tethered Mage If you’re into a crazy thing like visual media, then maybe you’d like to hear all of this on my youtube channel where I also add irrelevant flourishes: https://youtu.be/otqKhYpLgTU Galen's proposal in the epilogue. It's so cute that he's so dead set on begging for Piper's hand in marriage that he doesn't realize Piper has said yes a few times already.Instead of getting down, she’s out there cheerfully getting on with things. This is one of my favorite things about Kingfisher’s romances: she has a lot of badass characters who just roll their sleeves up and get on with it, whatever “it” may be. In Grace’s case, “it” is her work as a master perfumer for the city’s elite. Stephen stared at the ceiling of his room and thought, as he did every morning, about simply not getting out of bed. Second half of book is better written than first, too much lengthy inner monologues in first half, too many lengthy instances of it repeating the same story over again by the other character to show each perspective.

despite the fact that he had a moaning woman in his arms, Stephen had not been less aroused in recent memory. He helps by pretending he is screwing her against the wall. It’s very awkward. She makes very bad moaning noises, and his armour chafes very painfully. But it makes the Motherhood people go away, so…success!!! Stephens god died on the longest day of the year Three years later, Stephen is a broken paladin, living only for the chance to be useful before he dies. But all that changes when he encounters a fugitive named Grace in an alley and witnesses an assassination attempt gone wrong. Now the pair must navigate a web of treachery, beset on all sides by spies and poisoners, while a Stephen’s god died on the longest day of the year… Three years later, Stephen is a broken paladin, living only for the chance to be useful before he dies. But all that changes when he encounters a fugitive named Grace in an alley and witnesses an assassination attempt gone wrong. Now the pair must navigate a web of treachery, beset on all sides by spies and poisoners, while a cryptic killer stalks one step behind… From the Hugo and Nebula Award winning author of Swordheart and The Twisted Ones comes a saga of murder, magic, and love on the far side of despair. Orgy of Evidence: Marguerite is extremely skeptical of the poison and letter that point so obviously to Anuket City on the dead assassin, noting that no competent operative would have been so ham-handed. She says it's so over the top she wonders if it actually was Anuket City, and they deliberately set things up to make it look like they're being framed. Which is all to say, Paladin’s Grace is fabulous beyond words, and you should read it immediately, because the sequel is out tomorrow!!! Where the last couple books in this series focused upon a magical mystery, this one has less meat to work with. Previously, the other ex-paladins solved a mystery about who was creating these half-golem/half-zombie monstrosities, killing random civilians for body parts. That was pretty satisfying.

I also personally dislike when male characters are described as noticing or thinking about a female character’s bosom. Like, I get it - straight men like breasts. But I don’t want the basis of a relationship to be physical attraction. Do something else. Though I didn’t get the impression that Stephen was a creep, I didn’t like how often the author would mention that Stephen noticed Grace’s body. Grace’s breasts were mentioned a number of times, and it made me uncomfortable every time.A wonderfully fun story of perfumes, poisons, romance, severed heads, assassination plots, paladins of a dead god with berserker tendencies, a shy and kind perfume developer with a delightful civet and a past terrible marriage, and terrific Bishop Beartongue and lawyer Zale, both of the Church of the White Rat. For those of you unaware, T. Kingfisher is the nom du plom of Ursula Vernon. I haven’t read any books from Ursula, but am becoming very familiar with Kingfisher, so I can’t say much more to that point. Some of you may be familiar with the generally well regarded Swordheart from Kingfisher and so you know this takes place in the same world and even has a few crossover characters. However, it works as a standalone novel, no need to really consider it part of a universe. I will add that I hear if you didn’t like Swordheart, this is more of the same, so you won’t like this either. Me? Well, Swordheart is next in my tbr, so...
