I have looked around - and for SD card models - there is no other way but going through Audi - or getting a stand alone unit. Your SD card contents should look similar to this if you've done it correctly; note the metainfo2.txt file, this is key as it contains all the hashes of various files and the mappings to the update file, it is also what the car MMI uses to identify the update file, and without it, the car will not recognise that there's an update file. Updating the Car It seems there is no way round this unlike the HDD and DVD nav database versions which don't have the same pairing/activation process with the central system. The specified fuel consumption and emission data have been determind according to the measurement procedures prescribed by law. Since 1st September 2017, certain new vehicles are already being type-approved according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP), a more realistic test procedure for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Starting on September 1st 2018, the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) will be replaced by the WLTP in stages. Owing to the more realistic test conditions, the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions measured according to the WLTP will, in many cases, be higher than those measured according to the NEDC. Therefore, the usage of CO2 emission values measured according to WLTP for vehicle taxation from 1st September 2018 on can cause changes in this regard as well. I would say on these more modern systems it can take a bit longer than the older systems to update maybe or it is an Audi thing. I am updating an Audi R8 V10+ 2017 UK car for this example. I personally wouldn't bother with the SD card, after having the same consideration when I bought my latest Audi.
