When it comes to size and weight, the Sony A6700 and A6400 are both compact and portable cameras. However, the A6700 is slightly heavier and larger than the A6400. For bloggers, vloggers and independent content creators, the Sony A6400 is very good. Its still image quality is first rate, its 4K video is even better, and its 180-degree screen and eye-detect AF are handy for single-handed video capture. Even so, its high-tech image capture is poor consolation for its five-year-old design and limited external controls. The Sony A6700 boasts the same 4K UHD up to 30p, but adds 4K HDR (HLG) video recording and 120p slow-motion video at 1080p. While both cameras share similar features such as an anti-dust shutter mechanism, wireless and Bluetooth connection, image stabilisation, and support for RAW images. They also boast similar weather sealing and support for UHS-II cards. Should You Upgrade To The Sony A6700? The most notable uses are casual shooting, street, travel, and documentary photography. It is useful for situations where you need a highly portable but capable camera.

Image Quality: Still Great

While the A6700 does offer several notable upgrades over the A6400 such as improved autofocus, increased shooting speed and superior video capabilities, it might not be enough to warrant an upgrade for those who already own the A6400. The Canon EOS M6 Mk II has a 32 MP sensor and a great autofocusing system. It also has surprisingly great ergonomics in a tiny body. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy. Overheating during prolonged recording was a concern with the earlier models, including the A6400, restricting its continuous recording time. Note that the shutter on the A6400 doesn’t close when the camera is off. The sensor is exposed to direct air and dust.

Both processors are powerful, but the Bionz XR in the A6700 allows for faster image processing and potentially superior image quality. The improved processor also supports the A6700’s larger buffer for continuous shooting. Setting up the system exactly to your taste is a meticulous process. But once you’re done, it works like a charm and outperforms anything except Sony’s own high-end models. Firmware 2.0 was released for the α6400 on 13 June 2019, introducing animal eye AF, the ability to use the wireless remote commander RMT-P1BT, as well as claimed stability improvements. When it comes to video features, the A6700 surpasses the A6400 with extra features like pre-recording mode, improved recording time, 4K oversampling, and High-Speed mode in Full HD boosted to 120fps. Sony Alpha 6400: Autofocus

The dynamic range of this sensor is fantastic. When this camera was first released, it may have have had the best dynamic range you could find on the market at the time. According to my not-so-scientific testing, I would put it around 13 stops. For video shooters, a welcome change for the α6400 was the removal of the 30-minute record limit. This limit is an artificial one placed on many cameras to avoid being taxed differently. The α6400 is also a vast improvement for Sony with regards to overheating (most likely to occur whilst recording 4K due to the processing demands). Online tests showed that in modest ambient temperatures, you will flatten the battery or fill the memory card before you overheat the camera. Its ISO performance is also among the best. It provides very clean images up to ISO 1600. Between 1600 and 12,800, we see subtle increases in noise levels. Around ISO 25,600, noise becomes too harsh for the images to be useable for most purposes. It shoots 4K at 24, 25, and 30 fps. At 30 fps, it applies a 1.2x crop. It’s also capable of shooting Full HD at 120 fps. All of these are at 8-bit, 4:2:0, which doesn’t promise a lot for excessive grading. The maximum bitrate is 100 Mbps at all settings. And autofocus in video mode is great. The Sony A6400 dimensions are 120 x 67 x 50 mm (4.72 x 2.64 x 2.36 in) and weigh approximately 403g (0.89 lb) The Sony A6700 and the A6400 are both excellent cameras offering a broad spectrum of features and capabilities for photographers and videographers of all skill levels. Let's dive deep into the a6400's revamped autofocus system, plus we'll show you exactly how to set it up. The Sony Alpha A6400 is part of Sony’s mid-range crop sensor lineup. It houses a 24 MP APS-C sensor, a class-leading autofocus system, and great video features. The Canon EOS RP has a full frame sensor. While there are few native RF lenses, the adaptation of EF lenses is possible without annoyances in AF speed or accuracy. Sony A6400—Our Verdict The NP-FW50 battery is rated for 360 shots per charge and can be topped-up over USB. The A6400 can also be powered via its USB port. This autofocus system covers approximately 84% of the image area and is sensitive down to -2EV. It also boasts Sony’s already legendary Eye AF system, both in single-shot and continuous shooting mode, and Eye AF support for animals is due to be added in summer 2019.
