About this deal

That was this book for me. No denying Robbins has a way with words, but the way is over-engineered, contrived, and extremely irritating. Leigh-Cheri sent that message to Bernard through his attorney. The message continued, "I'm not quite 20, but, thanks to you, I've learned something that many women these days never learn: Prince Charming really is a toad. And the Beautiful Princess has halitosis. The bottom line is that (a) people are never perfect, but love can be, (b) that is the one and only way that the mediocre and the vile can be transformed, and (c) doing that makes it that. Loving makes love. Loving makes itself. We waste time looking for the perfect lover instead of creating the perfect love. Wouldn't that be the way to make love stay?" Most modern writers do their best to keep you involved in the story, to keep the writing from drawing attention to itself. Much in the same way that many filmmakers try to keep you from thinking, "Oh, I'm looking through a camera," so do writers try to keep you from thinking about the words - their lens through which they transmit their message and images. Robbins completely eschews this principle - not only does he make sure you notice his words, he goes out of the way to make the words themselves more interesting than the story. In the nineteen-forties in Nazi-occupied Paris, an artist named Marcel Carné made a movie. He filmed it on location on the Street of Thieves, the old Parisian theater street where at one time there was everything from Shakespearean companies to flea circuses, from grand opera to girlie shows. Carné's film was a period piece and required hundreds of extras in nineteenth-century costume. It required horses and carriages and jugglers and acrobats. The movie turned out to be over three hours long. And Carné made it right under the Nazi's noses. The film is a three hour affirmation of life and an examination of the strange and sometimes devastating magnetism of love. Romantic? Oh, babe, it's romantic enough to make a travel poster sigh and a sonnet blush. But completely uncompromising. It's a celebration of the human spirit in all of its goofy, gentle, and grotesque guises. And he made it in the very midst of Nazi occupation, filmed this beauty inside the belly of the beast. He called it Les Enfants du Paradis–Children of Paradise–and forty years later it's still moving audiences around the world. Howell SN, Webb S (1995). If it’s already the next morning, and love is hungover with the day off, then a tonic gently placed in their purview as they rinse last night’s cigarette smell out of their hair will be an act of pure poetry better than any saccharine tune on the radio. Love will think you are brilliant and it will stay (at least through the rest of the weekend). Tropes show how literature is conceptualized and created and which mixture of elements makes works and genres unique: Re e regine, principi azzurri bombaroli e principesse dai capelli rossi, rospi, pacchetti di Camel, macchine da scrivere saputelle, lunacezione… e su tutto, sotto tutto, dentro tutto sorge una domanda: come si può far perdurare l’amore?

In flagrant disregard of the nobler traditions of bibliophilism, I do dog-ear. Not everything I read; often, I'll slip a scrap of paper between leaves for a bookmark."

Johansson US, Ericson GP (2003). There is no such thing as a weird human being, It's just that some people require more understanding than others." Tonight I feel generous. Tonight I feel enchanted by the purpose of the moon. So tonight, I will allow four glittering stars to orbit this frustrating crank of a novel. Without parroting the sensible assertions from the hundred or so Goodreaders, let me be brief and say: I agree, in part, with every criticism and praise in some small way about Robbins. I do. And yes, this book does contain sentences like: A number of the pieces were penned for periodicals like Esquire, Playboy and the New York Times Magazine, including travel essays on Robbins’ adventures in Africa, Sumatra, Florida and a place he calls “the Canyon of the Vaginas” in west-central Nevada. Then there are song lyrics that seem disembodied with no tune to hum along, and bland poems. (Though he has fun with the poems, at heart he’s more of a storyteller than poet.) insan tanışıp birbirine âşık olunca ani bir büyü dalgası yaşanır. Pour all the ingredients into your shaker, then fill with ice when you are ready to shake. Seal your shaker and shake vigorously—this is no time to be demure—for a slow count of 15 seconds. Strain immediately into a chilled coupe and serve right away. The "plot," to put it broadly, is about a well-intentioned albeit naive redheaded "princess" who meets a redheaded self-obsessed "outlaw." Members of this family are chiefly known for their characteristic behaviour. They mostly forage for insect prey on the trunks and branches of trees, and often communicate by drumming with their beaks, producing a reverberatory sound that can be heard at some distance. Some species vary their diet with fruits, birds' eggs, small animals, tree sap, human scraps, and carrion. They usually nest and roost in holes that they excavate in tree trunks, and their abandoned holes are of importance to other cavity-nesting birds. They sometimes come into conflict with humans when they make holes in buildings or feed on fruit crops, but perform a useful service by their removal of insect pests on trees. Freedom is not about the size of your cage, power of your wings, or non-attachment to a person or a thing. Freedom is about being so truly, madly, and deeply attached to your own soul that you can't bear - if only for a moment - a life that doesn't honor it." The bottom line is that (a) people are never perfect, but love can be, (b) that is the only way that the mediocre and vile can be transformed, and (c) doing that makes it that."
