And why these four friends came to this tasteless, kitschy place? There is nothing out of ordinary with this place, instead of designing failures and creepy hotel crew! This is not Overlook! This is not even a creepy motel located in the middle nowhere. So I did’t understand the reasoning of the author to bring those girls to this place! They can go to cabin in the woods and it will be more effective place, fitting better with the story. There’s something to be said for reinventing the wheel, or so the publication of “The Returned,’’ the much-talked about first novel by North Carolina writer Jason Mott, would suggest. Without any sort of apocalyptic events to herald them, the dead begin to show up around the world and create an atmosphere that morphs from wonder to dismay and joy-tinged sorrow and sorrowful joy to amazement, causing disruption through many layers of society from political to military to religious as well as making for rifts in the fabric of family and personal relations.

I hope Natalie is better as a florist than a cop because if she didn’t know to look online for missing persons, she’s an idiot. I love Harrison's attention to detail--the clothing, hairstyles, setting...I get a strong sense of place and can visualize everything in a very movie-ready, cinematic way while I read. As she begins to physically decay before their very eyes, the friends have to come to grips with the fact that something is seriously wrong. Considering Julie's odd behavior and appearance, not to mention the smell, none of them want to broach the topic with her. THE RETURN is the first novel I have read by Rachel Harrison. To say that I was impressed is an understatement--this novel grabbed me from the start, and I didn't want to put it down until I had ALL the answers. Of course, that meant I was completely invested until the very end. The middle part of the book is about the Ramirez family and Spain's Civil War in the 1930s. There is a mother, Concha and father, Pablo. They run a cafe and for a while things are wonderful in their life. Their oldest son, Antonio is a teacher. Their middle son, Ignacio is a bull fighter. Their youngest son, Emilio is slowly taking over the cafe and has a passion for music. The daughter,

A whole lot about bees and I admit, it was a tiny bit fascinating in the absence of actual reading material. I do agree bees literally hold the world together and if I could, I'd buy freshly harvested home made honey myself. I mean, I get the symbolism of bees working hard for the honey and maybe that’s Trevor and Natalie having to wait on their relationship and learn patience???? Well, I'll tell you, they weren't the only ones that were scared. This book had moments that legit creeped me out.

Mott is a poet, with two well-received books of poetry. The Returned is his debut novel. It is receiving much advance attention in the press and has been bought by Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, in association with Brillstein Entertainment and ABC. A television drama based on the novel, retitled “Resurrection,” will debut in March 2014 on ABC. This fabulous foursome all live in different places and it can be tough to stay close over such distances. I have no aspirations to ever write a novel, but if I did, it would probably be similar to this. Take from that what you will. Julie, Elise, Mae, and Molly have been lifelong best friends. Then one day they are told that Julie has gone missing while out on a hike in the Maine mountains. Mae and Molly succumb to their grief but Elise is sure that Julie isn't dead. She knows that Julie likes the attention too much so she holds out hope for her return. From the New York Times bestselling author of Hell of a Book, a sensational novel about an impossible miracle and a family given a second chance at life...However, such lapses into B-movie sentimentality are rare. For the most part, Mott has written an affecting, fascinating book about humans forced by the unthinkable to confront questions of life, death, and the ultimate meaning of both. And they began drifting. That is, until Julie disappeared and a rift formed between the remaining three. It did give me heavy Jennifer's Body vibes and I wouldn't be surprised if I found out this author had watched that movie more than once.

Deciding to have a girl’s weekend, the four go away to an Inn in the Catskills to reconnect. The Inn boasts rooms that are all quite different and ostentatious. Of course, no one gives a thought to the fact that they are the only ones staying for the weekend! Elise, Julie, Mae and Molly have been best friends since college. As with many such relationships, as time goes by, the ladies have begun to drift apart. All over the world people’s loved ones are returning from beyond. No one knows how or why, whether it’s a miracle or a sign of the end. But as chaos erupts around the globe, the newly reunited family finds itself at the center of a community on the brink of collapse, forced to navigate a mysterious new reality. Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group to share this ARC COPY in exchange my honest review. I wish I could enjoy it like the last thrillers I’ve read lately. Molly - I have absolutely nothing to say about this character. She, in my opinion, didn’t add anything to plot. She’s one of those characters that can be cut without any ill effect.

A Time of Silence: Civil War and the Culture of Repression in Franco’s Spain 1936 – 1945 – Michael Richards (CAMBRIDGE) I want to thank Berkley and Penguin Random House for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All her friends have no common, talking like teenagers not nearly 30 years old people, keep saying “I love you’”s but they don’t have any idea why the hell they love each other so much are really worried about their friends. But they don’t ask what is going with her. Der Schreibstil des Autors fand ich gut. Er erzeugte die passende Stimmung für das Buch und konnte mich fesseln.
