About this deal

In terms of layout, this T-Maxx product and the RAC900 are practically the same. The compressor’s power leads clamp directly to battery terminals, and the large coiled hose allows plenty of distance between the compressor and the coupling/gauge/deflate button. While the power lead is a smidgen longer than the RAC900’s, the air hose is shorter. And, ultimately, the Ring is the faster unit, with this one taking five seconds short of two minutes in the inflation test. Cordless tyre inflators are becoming increasingly popular, however, you should still look for a model that offers an additional power source, such as your vehicle’s 12V port or direct connection to your battery. Over time, your batteries could lose charge and you may find yourself stranded. Good features included long air hoses and power leads, which make positioning the compressor much easier – cordless devices were even better. We also noticed that some higher power models attach directly to a battery’s terminals, which is an advantage when you are either inflating or deflating a tourer’s tyres because of the close proximity of the leisure battery. Use it to set your target pressure and the compressor will do the rest, cutting out when it reaches its target to prevent over inflation. Complete with an integrated LED light for extra safety and ease of use, this model also comes with a two-piece adaptor set for your inflatable accessories. Diving straight in, the RAC830 was straightforward to use straight out of the box. I had the pressure readout adjusted (PSI, KPA and BAR are offered) and the correct pressure selected in a couple of seconds and without any swearing. The sturdy but limited controls play favourably with this tyre inflator. An on/off button, a dial, and the light button.

I'm looking for a reliable air compressor myself after finding out that the supplied one on our Burstner is next to useless....actually it is useless. If you need air at the side of the road either drive to a garage if its just low or change the wheel. Below the compressor is connected to a car tyre: RAC900 Tyre Pump In Action The Inline Tyre Pressure Gauge

The 2.4m length of the battery connection cables, plus the 7-metre (extended) length of the air-line, should allow any of wheels of most motorhomes to be reached if (as Keithl has mentioned above) the pump is connected to a Ducato’s engine-compartment ‘jump start’ points.

The underlying concept is good advice, but I would use a pair of Anderson, standard grey SB50 connectors, and include an adequately rated fuse close to the positive battery pole. The Halfords product is OK, but the lever-operated connector is crudely made and far from sturdy - I accidentally stood on mine and the connector and hose parted company. The Ring RAC700 4×4 Air Compressor weighs a hefty 2.091kg and measures 175mm high, 200mm wide and 130mm deep. Unfortunately that’s where the similarity ends, because with this Ring RAC700 the compressor-mounted gauge, standard-length air hose, and 12V plug on the power lead are all much more like the budget DIY models on our test bench.

Practical Motorhome is part of Future plc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. C– Diameter 2mm, Length 32mm, open ended with 1mm Hole 5mm from end. Inflate balls with this adapter. We also liked tyre compressors with easy-to-read gauges, and digital gauges seemed to fare particularly well. Another desirable feature is an auto-stop function, which will automatically turn the compressor off once you’ve reached the pressure you want, meaning you can leave it working while you get on with something else. A product with lights will be easier to use in the dark, plusan integral high-volume low-pressure pump will mean that you won’t need to take a separate pump with you on tour. I’ve used it to top up car and motorbike pressures and once to seat a stubborn tubeless tyre on a mountain bike. I like the screw-on fittings and long hose but generally think a digital gauge is easier to use than an analogue one. It’s a hefty bit of kit, but super speedy and surprisingly quiet.

Downside is cost (though I think it's very reasonable for the quality on offer) and bulk - it comes in a bag the size of a rugby ball.
