Not that we were doing it for the money necessarily, but I wonder if we should’ve at least been paid enough to buy a meal, and a lot of times we weren’t paid even that.” Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS is a captivating book that delves into the extraordinary journey of the global sensation, BTS. Published in celebration of their 10th anniversary, this official book goes beyond what fans already know and provides an intimate and comprehensive account of the group’s rise to fame.

Most of the issues in this book boil down to the fact that it reads like an article, which is not surprising, given that the author is mostly a journalist. Though the comic-y and adjective-wrought writing style isn't something I'd enjoy even in an article, it becomes overbearing and too noticeable in a longer form, which it is clearly not meant for. Way too dramatic from the start in its vocabulary, it's constantly drainingly high-energy and doesn't leave space for the actual high points to shine. The article-ness is exacerbated by the previously mentioned number dropping and song descriptions. The book would have benefited from heavy editing and as it is, could have gotten the message across in half the length or less.

Apart from those who loved and supported us, everyone else felt like an enemy. We were really worried about how much criticism we’d get if we put even a foot out of line.” PDF / EPUB File Name: Beyond_The_Story_-_BTS_Myeongseok_Kang_Anton_Hur.pdf, Beyond_The_Story_-_BTS_Myeongseok_Kang_Anton_Hur.epub Bloch, Emily (May 10, 2023). SUGA recalled that their American television debut, in 2017, had been on the same stage for the same awards show (at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles). When the group won artist of the year, he couldn’t help thinking someone had made a mistake — or the world was playing a prank on him. There was a strong sense of being rewarded. That we’d done something together as a group⸺I was overwhelmed by that feeling, I think.” Some prior understanding of the K-pop industry may be required to get the most out of the book (knowing how groups are typically assembled, for example, or how competitive Korean TV shows work). But as a contribution to modern music journalism, Beyond The Story is valuable. As they learn of the band’s insatiable work ethic, discipline and brotherly commitment, readers will feel as if they know each of the seven members much better, with a deeper understanding of how their music has developed since their debut. Actually, I don’t think we were people who lived life thinking about so many things. In fact, if we had thought a lot, it would have been harder, and because we were just seven really simple people, maybe that was what made it possible.” Published in celebration of BTS’s 10th Anniversary, stories that go beyond what you already know about BTS, including unreleased photos, QR codes of videos, and all album information.a b c Tumin, Remy (May 12, 2023). BTS’s relationship with ARMY, formed thanks to the internet, became their unintended path to salvation.” Beyond the Story: 10 Year Record of BTS is a 2023 biography about South Korean pop group BTS. We really had almost no days off. So, at the time, I wondered whether it was right for a person to live life as exhausted as this.”

No one cared... you could be eliminated after any of the tests they would put us through time to time, which was scary.” I had such a great time reading this! It was wonderful to hear the members’ perspectives on the different ups and downs they’ve had as a group. There’s also a big emphasis on explaining their thought process behind different songs and their lyrics, which I really appreciated. The book isn’t all celebratory, it definitely does touch on moments of other people in the industry being disrespectful towards them, targeted hate campaigns, and also moments where BTS made mistakes, but that doesn’t overwhelm the story. They also go in depth with explaining how overwhelming their international success became and why they almost decided to disband at the beginning of 2018. I have been an ARMY since 2014. I have spent almost an entire decade with BTS, starting from my mid teens up until my early 20s.

In this respect, BTS and Big Hit, without even realising it themselves, were in the process of tearing down boundaries.”On June 9, 2023, BTS released a song called “Take Two”— an ode to their fans, known as ARMY. According to the press release, it also marks the group moving onto their second chapter after their decade-long journey as artists. When does BTS’ book come out? Image: John Shearer/Getty Images for The Recording Academy I am so thankful to the members for getting our acts together, and I want to say how thankful I am to ARMY for always loving us.” In July 2016, Big Hit and BTS issued a statement responding to the complaints, saying, “We learned that music creation is not free from societal prejudice and fallacies,” and “Furthermore, we became aware that it may also not be desirable to define the value of women and their role in society from a male perspective.” It wasn’t all adoration from there on out: The band came under fire for two songs that fans said perpetuated gender inequality and misogyny. The 2014 song “War of Hormones” featured lyrics that translate to “Girls are like an equation / us guys just do them (yup) / Imma give it to you girl right now / A woman is the best present.” And the 2015 song “Joke” includes lyrics that translate to “”You’re the best woman, the best vagina .... But now that I think about it, you were never the best / I will stop calling you best and instead call you gonorrhea.” I was so scared. It was Christmas Eve and the streets were full of cheerful people, but I couldn’t get my bearings at all.”
